Don’t worry about that though as the spectacle of rugby will be 100 percent worthwhile for the lack of sleep on Saturday morning. Peñarol host the final against the defending Champions, Los Dogos!
Peñarol will be looking to reclaim the title having won it in 2022 & 2023. In 2023, Peñarol defeated Los Dogos at the same venue, winning 23 -17. I have a feeling there will be more points on the board from both teams today. Peñarol have beaten Los Dogos both games this season, first in Montevideo 29 - 28 and then away in Córdoba 17 - 19.
The Head to Head results since 2023 are 5 wins for Peñarol and only 1 win for Los Dogos.
Los Dogos come into this game after a solid win over Pampas last week. They only make 2 changes to the starting line up that went to Buenos Aires. Genaro Fissore starts at 8 with Valentín Cabral dropping out. Franco Rossetto will pull on the 14 shirt in replacement for Julián Hernández. Los Dogos will have 5 players off to join Los Pumas after this with Boris Wenger, Pedro Delgado, Leonel Oviedo, Agustín Moyano and Faustino Sánchez Valarolo selected for the roster. Los Dogos will need Moyano to be pulling the strings again tonight to overturn recent fortunes against Peñarol. He was electric last week and alongside top point scorer, Juan Bautista Baronio, Los Dogos will need to keep the score board ticking over.
Peñarol are completely unchanged for the final. They looked to finish the job against Selknam at a canter really, so potentially have a bit left in the tank. They will need to keep their discipline in check having had 2 yellow cards in 2 minutes last week, which Selknam couldn’t take advantage of. They will be hoping that Felipe Etcheverry has found his kicking boots again after having a tough day at the office last week from the tee. With the weather likely to be raining, it will create slippy conditions on the 4G surface.
We are all set for a spectacular end to the Super Rugby Americas season! With the weather conditions looking to dampen the proceedings, meaning more of a controlled game than the Fijian esque style of play likely. I have Los Dogos to upset the odds and snatch a narrow victory.
