In a highly anticipated clash at Rodney Parade, the Dragons faced off against Cardiff Rugby in a gripping United Rugby Championship match that kept fans on the edge of their seats. The home crowd was buzzing, ready to support their team in what promised to be an electrifying encounter.

Right from the kickoff, Cardiff's intent was clear. Alex Mann opened the scoring with an early try just one minute into the game. The visitors capitalized on the momentum, and Callum Sheedy’s conversion extended their lead to 7-0 within the first few minutes. Not to be outdone, the Dragons responded almost immediately when Brodie Coghlan crossed the try line in the sixth minute, putting the home side on the board. The early exchanges showcased both teams' attacking prowess, with Cardiff’s Taulupe Faletau demonstrating his experience with a try in the 13th minute, followed by another successful conversion from Sheedy. Dan Thomas added another try for Cardiff in the 19th minute, pushing the score to 21-7. The Dragons were now under pressure and needed to regroup.

The game continued to ebb and flow, with the Dragons gradually regaining composure. Key substitutions at halftime, including the likes of Huw Anderson and Dillon Lewis, aimed to inject fresh energy into the home side's performance. The adjustments seem to have an immediate effect, as the Dragons came out strong in the second half.

In the 60th minute, Danny Southworth scored for Cardiff, further widening the gap. With the score at 24-10, things looked bleak for the Dragons. However, bolstered by the relentless support of their fans, the Dragons began to claw their way back into the match. Ben Carter’s try in the 71st minute sparked celebrations among the home faithful as the score narrowed to 24-15.

Tinus de Beer, having found his rhythm after an uneasy first half, added a conversion shortly after, bringing the Dragons to within a converted try. With the clock ticking down, every second counted, and the Dragons looked determined to stage a remarkable comeback.

As the final minutes approached, Angus O'Brien’s penalty in the 79th minute narrowed the scoreline to 17-24, keeping hope alive for the Dragons. Despite their best efforts, including a fierce final push in the dying seconds, Cardiff held firm, successfully defending their lead until the final whistle. The match concluded with a score of 24-17 in favor of Cardiff, a reflection of their clinical finishing and strategic play.
