Three players that caught the eye in MLR Round 9

Three players that caught the eye in MLR Round 9

Hat-trick hero Mignot

French hot-stepping wing Xavier Mignot bagged himself a hat-trick of tries in NOLA Gold's 51-29 victory over Old Glory DC.

The 31-year-old was at Lyon for eight seasons in the Top 14 after joining from Grenoble in 2017.

Mignot scored 32 tries in 131 matches in the French top-flight and held an impressive strike rate of six tries in 14 Champions Cup appearances. He also made one appearance for France on a tour of Argentina in 2016.

He has proven his weight in gold (pun intended) since moving to New Orleans with six tries in as many appearances to take NOLA into play-off contention.

English export Reeves continues to thrive

Bristol-born Jack Reeves made the most metres across round 9 with 107 for New England Free Jacks.

Reeves, 24, made 36 appearances for Gloucester after coming through the club's academy, going on to score seven tries, as well as enjoying a stint at local Championship side Hartpury University.

The former England U20s centre has scored three tries so far this season after making the move across the pond and seems to be thriving Stateside on the hard ground with the Free Jacks, who are second in the Eastern Conference.

Lochore is a tackle machine

Kiwi forward Frank Lochore has proven a force of nature since joining Utah Warriors in 2023.

Lochore, 23, can play second row or blindside flanker with equal aplomb and made a round-high 23 tackles during last weekend's impressive 45-28 win away at RFC Los Angeles - a feat any forward in the engine room would be proud of.

The former Hawke's Bay Magpies player went the distance in Utah's triumph on the road and plays a pivotal part in the second-place Western Conference title-hunting outfit.
